The experience of beauty is a universal phenomenon, even though there are no set canons to determine it, rather diverse and changing appreciations, according to the cultural context in which these canons are created. Sometimes art -or the artist himself- produces beautiful images. These impose themselves on the observer through their mere presence, producing a pure contemplative state. Onem has chosen, on this occasion, to work with pristine images, with sublime organic forms and
delicate and with exalting tonalities, which makes the canon of the beautiful to be established before the eyes almost immediately, as a predefined conception before a first glance.
But Onem elaborates a bold second reading, already implicit in his images, which provides him with a relevance in the background that contrasts with the surface. Beyond the mere idea of the sublime, Onem links the concept of his images with the idea of the human condition, and therefore, with a primordial preconception: nature itself. The sinuosities observed in his work are created by the fishes represented, a tropical variety known in Thai as Pla-Kad (Betta Splendens), also known as fighting fish, already
that besides its natural beauty, ferocity is another of its characteristics; and it is here where this duality happens as a reflection of the nature of men. It is maintained, like the universe, in a subtle balance between this contrast. Onem allows us to be participants in this profound event, through the radical contemplation of the beauty that lies beyond the surface.
